About X.Plore
A FEW WORDS ABOUT US

X.Plore is the schools department of New Life Church Scunthorpe (www.newlifechurch.co.uk). Born out of a desire to influence local schools, X.Plore has been running since 1998, and September 2003 saw the birth of our first full-time “schools team”.

Since 2003, X.Plore has been working in 20+ local primary and secondary schools, finding much favour with staff and pupils in all schools. Now developed into a full “Internship Programme”, much of X.Plore provides delegates with opportunities to work and gain experience in a variety of ministries, social projects, leadership training and creative opportunities.

PURPOSE OF X.PLORE
‘CHRISTIAN SUPPORT FOR SCHOOLS’

The purpose of X.Plore is to bring hope to young people across North Lincolnshire. As we read regularly in the local and national press, young people are aggravated and discontent with their lives. Stories of binge drinking, drug and sexual abuse, and general frustration fill our newspapers and magazines, highlighting a need of hope for the lives of these young people.

The X.Plore Internship programme is designed for delegates to work with New Life Church Scunthorpe. Working as teams in the local schools coupled with serving in New Life’s children’s and youth ministries means delegates have a fantastic opportunity to bring the great news of Jesus to literally thousands of children and young people in the county.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (“WORKING ON THE GROUND”)

The internship programme is designed for delegates to receive a holistic leadership experience ranging from church ministry to working in the community. Appropriate training is provided for all delegates, and then this equipping is put into practice immediately as delegates work together in reaching out to children and young people thus providing interns with experience and equipping for the future.
A short-term mission’s trip is also part of the year, as well as opportunities to go to other youth training events and conferences. Interns receive weekly pocket-money to help them on their stay, as well as accommodation (if required) provided by a suitable New Life family. Delegates also have the option of receiving OCN accreditation through working and providing drug awareness sessions in local schools. Delegates receive a day off during the week as some weekends will require interns to serve within various ministries.

The internship programme provides delegates with the following opportunities:

  • Opportunities to work in local primary and secondary schools
  • To be a part of the ‘conference team’ working from ‘The House’ venue
  • Working in the supported-housing ‘Lighthouse Hotel’
  • Working in a wide variety of church ministries (e.g. Children’s; Youth; Dance; Media etc.)
  • Option to receive OCN accreditation (level 2/3) in drug awareness provision for young people
  • Leadership seminars led by New Life key leaders
  • A short-term mission’s trip to a eastern European country
  • Schools and youth work conference and training events
The cost for the yearly programme is £1500, which can be raised easily before you join X.Plore in September. This payment covers the total cost of the programme including food, accommodation and expenses. There may be opportunities to raise this money by working in the Lighthouse Hotel during the year. Please enquire about this if interested in raising money this way.
Applicants joining X.Plore from outside Scunthorpe are placed with a suitable host family who are regular New Life Church attendees. Weekly pocket-money is provided to each delegate to help them with their stay.

ANDREW HORNSBY - X.PLORE CO-ORDINATOR

Andy started working for New Life Church in September 2003 with the aim of raising full-time school teams to impact local schools in North Lincolnshire. Andy has a passion for bringing a message of hope to young people, and desires to see X.Plore help communicate this message to as many school pupils and children as possible.

Andy took a year-out on the Pais Project (www.paisproject.com) working in Bury, greater Manchester. After completing his year with Pais, Andy joined X.Plore to move it forward by raising full-time “school teams” who work in local schools within North Lincolnshire.

SCHOOL TEAMS
ON THE GROUND - IN THE SCHOOLS.

The X.Plore school teams are what make X.Plore work. They are the legs of the body. Each team has 3-5 members, each working together to bring about effective schools work in local Primary and Comprehensive schools. X.Plore believes in teamwork, therefore the load is shared and the success celebrated together.

“Members of each team will aim to support the school in the best way that they can. This may be on an individual basis where they assist in teaching an RE lesson, or it may be collectively as a team where they present a whole-school assembly. PSCH education is now also a major part of X.Plore’s work.”
